Google Business Group Ibadan Officially Launched With An Event.. See Pictures
Google Business Group Ibadan was officially launched on Tuesday, 27th of February, 2018 and held at the Jogor event center, Ibadan tagged Harnessing Web Technologies For Business Growth. The event started with an introduction by Mrs Peju Babalola, Women Will Ibadan Lead and Business Women Connect (BWC) coordinator.
She explained GBG is a global brand that was officially launched in Ibadan, with the aim to Connect, Inform and Inspire and every city has her own GBG chapter. The Mission of GBG is to build sustainable and active community that helps to start and secure businesses using Google technology. Google products (technology) create exposure for your business beyond your circumference, it has been verified that 60% exposure with 30% image and 10% of performance is necessary for a successful business.
GBG is an independent community led groups formed by passionate individuals, it is a community of business professionals, business owners, startups-founders sharing knowledge about web technology for business growth.
GBG services are free and you have the benefit of becoming a volunteer and member however, passion is the drive as no one will be paid for any service received or rendered. GBG is a platform where you can advertise yourself both as a brand and also as a business owner. The women arm of GBG is called Women Will, simply to empower women, SMEs and start-ups., which can be joined through Registration to gain access to other information
GBG organizes workshops, Campus programs and trainings which is supported by Google, but the initiative runs independently of Google Inc.
The first Keynote speaker was Bunmi Fajuyigbe, Founder of Figure 8
She started out by mentioning some of Google products which include Google My Business, YouTube, Google sheets, Google calendar, goggle hangout, Google slides, Google forms, Google Maps, Chrome browser, Google play store, Google Analytics, Google Keyboard planner, Google search, Google Insights, Google ANP, Google Alerts, Google hangouts, Google AdSense
She spoke about YouTube is a video sharing website which was created by three former paypal employees in 2005 and Google bought the site in November 2006 at $1.65billion which presently operates as one of Google’s subsidiaries. You-tube helps to demonstrate one’s business like catering, make-up etc. to attract new customers and also exposes what one does to the global world. You-tube being one of the Google products is automatically linked with other Google products.
Blogger is a a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra-Labs which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspots.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the registered custom domain of the blogger (like www.example.com). A user can have up to 100 blogs per account. She also mentioned that when it comes to Blogging, it is more than publishing but using great graphics and keywords that can express people’s needs.
Google AdSense is a program run by Google that allows publishers in the Google Network of content sites to serve automatic text, image, video, or interactive media advertisements, that are targeted to site content and audience. These advertisements are administered, sorted, and maintained by Google. They can generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google AdSense program operates on HTTP cookies and over 14.3 million websites use AdSense.
Google Plus (Google+)is an Internet based social network that is owned and operated by Google. This has been overseen and redesigned by three of Google executives in 2005. It is advised that every business owner sign up for Google plus, it enhances visibility of search.
Lastly, another Google product is the Google Analytics give an overview of number of people visiting your site, the conversion rate, traffic rate, most visited posts, type of browser and phone.
The second keynote Speaker was Tunde Onakoya- “The Mechanic”
Tunde Onakoya is the Managing director of Ednutalo Automobile Services, he also a host of auto-clinic radio program on Splash FM, Ibadan for the past 8years where he counsel listeners on automobiles’ management.
Tunde shared on how he has been able to use Google web technologies to run a successful Automobile-clinic; using computerized diagnoses. For instance, He uses software called “All Data” which has specification, procedure, illustration, picture schematics and tools including estimation of manpower that is required to carry out repairs on most vehicles manufactured from 1968 till date.
He also shared how he had once lost many of the company’s properties containing important files to robbery which could have caused the company to shut down for a while but they were able to resume the next day due to the fact they make use of some preemptive tools like Google Drive for backing up files after the close of the day. He also described other technology tools like CCTV, Data Access, Google hangout, Video call Apps and BulkSMS that serves as in and out-office experience; including Wave Apps, a free accounting software that the company uses for integrated financial services like Income-expenditure graphs, generation of Invoice etc.

He continued by comparing running traditional business and virtual (online) businesses, the latter can be lot better, as it allows you to work anywhere without a restriction of location, no physical products and runs automatically however, there is no 9-5pm schedule but All-day services through E-mails, calls, whatsapp (12am-12am) with little privacy. Comparing Top-earning companies and top-earning websites; for instance Walmart earns about $400 billion and profit under 14 billion compared to Google as at 2008 earn $21billion and profit was $4.2billion which makes Google five time profitable than Walmart. The combined net-worth of three E-businesses -Google, Facebook and Amazon together was over $1.2trillion. As at the time Steve Jobs passed, Apple was worth over trillion dollars, with in bank account with $1.3trillion and for scaling purpose, as at that time, U.S government had less than $300billion in cash as at that time.
It has been verified that 52% of people discovered new businesses via Facebook with increasing number of users on social but when it comes to Web, nobody has understand how it works, it is presently an unlimited space with disruptive innovations happening every day.
The Web-Space is a large space where you can own as much real estate as possible.
The third speaker was Mr. Kaosiso Anaekwe, a Champion at GBG Lagos and could couldn’t hide his happiness at the launch of GBG Ibadan.
He spoke on using web technologies to support businesses from start to success; with over 200 chapters of GBG across the world in over 66 countries with the first zonal meeting at Singapore last year. GBG is about creating success business stories.
He also shared on how to take advantage of Google My Business; a platform that creates easy accessing of one’s business on the web. To get started, business.google.org and from there you can be register your business, location and even put your business on Google Map, creating direction for easy location.
Google My Business allows easy engagements with customers and update products and services. It is also integrated with Google Plus but to get fully registered, Google has made a verification means of location by sending a postcard with a pin that will be entered for verification. Due to postal issues, Google initiated Google verifier through any of the Google Business Groups. According to statistics, 78% Small business finds 25% of their customers through Google My Business.
The event was capped with a Panel session with the panelist were Olumide Olusanya, Founder of Destination Connect, Tunde Onakoya, The Mechanic, Kaosiso Anaekwe, GBG Champion Leader, Edmund Obilo, Investigative Journalist and Bunmi Fajuyigbe, Founder of Figure8.
