UI Alumni Donates N200M PostGraduate Hall

The University of Ibadan Alumni Association, UIAA, announced on Monday that it has completed a 54-bedroom postgraduate hall, which will be handed over to the institution on Friday 5th of May, 2018 as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.

According to the UIAA National President, Dr. Kemi Emina, the gesture was intended to reduce the effects of the shortage of funds by the Federal Government to the institution. He disclosed that the overall intention of the UIAA was to generate at least N100 million annually to support the university’s management in order to move forward.

Dr. Emina, speaking in Ibadan on Monday, as part of the preparation for the unveiling of the hall and eventual handover to the management of the institution, said the alumni association has been of tremendous assistance to the institution since its birth 60 years ago.

Lamenting the non-availability of funds to the institution from the Government, he said: “despite the fact that standard of education in Nigeria is terribly low, UI as an institution of learning, has been able to maintain its enviable standard.”

He further urged graduates of UI, who are doing excellently in their chosen careers, not to forget their alma mater.

Speaking further on the activities lined up for the 60th anniversary, Dr. Emina said the commissioning of the hall would be done by the Governor of Gombe State, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo and afterward, the Governor would deliver the 5th National Public Service lecture and the 60th Anniversary lecture. In addition, he said. To make the 60th anniversary memorable, the compilation of all past lecturers series delivered in the last 30 years, including that of the late Attorney General, Chief Bola Ige, would also be introduced.
