Ajimobi charges NURTW, TOAN on Peaceful Conduct
Governor of Oyo State Abiola Ajimobi has charged members of the Nigerian union of Road and Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) to maintain peaceful coexistence in all their activities and interactions.
The Governor, who spoke through the Honorable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Wasiu Dauda stated this during a peace parley organized in order to find a last lasting solution to the lingering crisis between the two Unions. the peace meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Works and Transport, Secretariat, Ibadan on Thursday.
The peace parley had in attendance the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Police headquarters, Eleyele, representatives of Department of State Services and FRSC, representative of the Special Adviser (Security) to the Governor, representatives of the Ministries of Works and Transport, Justice and Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and the Executive Members of NURTW and TOAN.
Senator Ajimobi admonished the members of the various unions not to disrupt peace in the State. He declared that his administration is committed to ensuring the security of lives and properties of citizens of the state. The governor also stressed that the prevailing peace in Oyo State which has led to various developmental projects as well as attracting investors to the state should not be truncated.
In the communiqué signed by both parties at the end of the meeting, the Unions agreed that peace would continue to reign in the State and they would abide by the law.
The State Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde appreciated Governor Ajimobi for organizing the peace parley to resolve the crisis between the two Unions.
He enjoined members of NURTW and TOAN not to allow unscrupulous politicians in the state to use them to truncate the peace being enjoyed by the good people of Oyo State.
