The Oyo State government has inaugurated a technical steering committee to ensure the sustainability of the planned programmes for orphans and other vulnerable children in the state.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community Development, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Atinuke Ogunkoya, said this during the inauguration of the committee.

The commissioner said the state government accords priority to issues relating to orphans and vulnerable children and is always ready to consider ways on how they could be supported.

According to the statement from Mrs Ogunkoya:

The capacity of the state government via the Ministry of Women Affairs is to lead the team to ensure the total commitment of various stakeholders which requires technical input of technocrats from various sectors.

She commended the implementing partners which included the Coordinating Comprehensive Care for Children and the Aids Preventive Initiative Nigeria (APIN), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and orphanage/children home operations.

Earlier, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs Foluso Sali, commended stakeholders present at the event for coming to support the initiative. He enjoined them to support the government by reporting any child lacking good family care such as children with disabilities, among others.
