The Institut Francais and the Institute for French Research in Africa (IFRA) are organizing a one day conference on Feminism, titled Women On The Move In Nigeria and Beyond. The conference is aimed at mobilization of women and mobilization of ideas, and it will take place on Thursday the 1st of December 2016 at the Institute of African Studies, the University of Ibadan by 9:30 am.
The Ibadan is the second of three feminism events in three major cities of Nigeria. The Abuja leg of the event took place on Tuesday the 29th of November 2016 and the Lagos leg of the event will take on Saturday the 3rd of December 2016. The Ibadan leg of the event will be moderated by Adejoke Rafiat Adetoro, Historian and Writer, of the University of Ibadan. Speakers at the event include Dr. Jules Falquet, Senior Lecturer, Sociologist and Feminist Activist from Paris Diderot University, France, Dr. Seunfunmi Olutayo, the Head, Department of Gender Studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Sara Panata, Historian and Ph.D. student at the Paris Sorbonne University, France.
The conference will be followed by a screening of “We Should All Be Feminists” the popular 2011 TEDx talk delivered by acclaimed feminist writer Chimanda Ngozi Adichie.
