Management and students of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan (KDU), are still reveling in the outstanding performance of the university in the just concluded Inter-Universities Public Lecture and Oratory Contest, organised by the Students’ Representative Council of Lead City University, Ibadan.
The recently established university secured the second position in the contest, led marginally by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), with the host university, Lead City, emerged in the third position.
The university was represented by the duo of Omotoke Solarin-Sodara and Obaoluwagbohunmi Akin-Lewis, who captivated the audience with their oratory expertise on the contest topic: “Grazing Reserve Bill or Cattle Colony: An Elixir to Recent Crisis Between Fulani Herdsmen and Farmers in Nigeria.”
The KolaDaisi University Debate Team, selected from the institution’s Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and accompanied by Dr. Titiloye Ojo, Dr. Idayat Lamidi and Dr. Idowu Adekunle, was said to have demonstrated exceptional brilliance and confidence, which defied the odds of their status, considering the institution’s relative young age on the education landscape. Basking in the euphoria of the outstanding performance of the university, Ojo lauded the dexterity and confidence exhibited by the university team, which he attributed to the key that earned the institution the trophy.
The university team, he pointed out, was dauntless and refused to be intimidated by other contestants during the contest, saying “I feel so proud of our team, as our students were very brilliant and confident.”
He added: “You can imagine their courage, regardless of their young status as 100-Level undergraduates, slogging it out with other contestants, whom most of them are in 500-Level from older universities.”
In a congratulatory and appreciation letter over the students’ feat, which was signed by the University Registrar, Mrs. Omotayo Ikotun, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolade Ayorinde congratulated the entire Faculties of Arts, Management, and Social Sciences, for doing the university proud at the contest.
