Just after the whole ‘ OpenLetter ‘ Saga over the last weekend in Ibadan, the fast growing industry opened her eyes to a challenging situation in a new week. This time the Oyo State government announced the payment of Levy/Permit on every show or concert in the ancient city. Since the release of this information on the state Radio station, stakeholders and friends of this industry has started a massive protest on social media using different hashtags(#) and display pictures (DPs) to make their voice heard.
In a bid to speak with one voice, the Association of Entertainment Stakeholders in Oyo State (AESOS) met on Wednesday 18th, May 2016 at GQ Lounge to discuss the way forward on the disheartening situation. The meeting which enjoyed massive turn out also had major Ibadan celebrities presence. The emergency meeting was also an avenue to endorse the ‘Spartacus Comedy Show’ with Mc Rapindady.
In attendance were Paul Alasiri, popular event planner Damola Layade, social media personality Adeyemi Oba (@UrbanCulture06), ace journalist Rotimi Ige, performing artist Jayru, influential blogger VOZ Empire and WhatsupIbadan, radio presenters like Rolly Bello, DonTee, Wale Ozolua and many other relevant people in Ibadan.
At the end of the long meeting, the association chose delegates to meet with the Oyo State government to clarify issues such as what sort of events require the procurement of a permit, and in return for such payment , how will the government support the event planner. Also, the delegates would solicit for a reduction of the fee for the permit.
