On Saturday the 3rd of December 2016, the WomenTechMakers (WTM),an initiative designed to provide inclusion for female tech enthusiasts within the Google Developer Group (GDG) Ibadan and Wennovation Hub organized a one-day training and interactive session for women who are interested in Technology. The event took place at Wennovation Hub, Queen Elizabeth Road Mokola Ibadan and was titled Opportunities for Women in Tech. It was moderated by Olaoluwa Usman, Lead of WTM Ibadan.
The participants in the event, who came from all over Ibadan and its environs had the opportunity to gain insight from four of the top women in Tech in Nigeria. Ire Aderinokun, a User Interface/ User Experience Designer and Front End Developer from Big Cabal, Yetunde Sanni a Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence Advocate and Fellow at Andela, Ayomide Faleye, a Data Analyst from BudgitNG and Lara Adejuwon a software engineer at Law Pavillion, were all available to discuss their backgrounds, how their respective fields work, how they have been able to use their various skills to impact their communities and the opportunities that are available for women in User Interface Development, Machine Learning /Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis.
Apart from discussions, there were also opportunities for participants to ask questions and to get practical insights for the problems they were facing with their technology related solutions. The guests also took the opportunity to ask the participants questions and to present gifts to the participants that most demonstrated understanding in their various fields of interest. There was also networking opportunities as young women in tech took the opportunity to talk and share ideas on how they can move the tech scene in Ibadan forward.
