EVENTS: IBPULSE HOSTS AFTER5IVE
On Thursday the 28th of July 2016, Ibadan Affairs blog, IbPulse hosted After5ive, an ideas exchange and networking event for stakeholders in the entrepreneurship, entertainment, new media and tech ecosystem. The event which was held at the lounge of the Mauve 21 Events Centre Ring Road, Ibadan was hosted by Paul Adepoju, blogger, healthcare professional and CEO of IbPulse.
After5ive was headlined by four guests, Babajide Fadoju, Special Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi on New Media; Niyi Ajao, Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on ICT; Dipo Famakinwa(represented by a member of staff), Director General of Dawn Commission and Gbolahan Alli, Operations Director of Wennovation Hub. The event also featured entrepreneurs, techies, new media professionals and stakeholders in the entertainment niche like Tony Rowland Awobode, formerly of Splash FM; Rolake Bello and Soul of Fresh FM; Tunde Onakoya of Auto Clinic; Seun Bamiro, CEO of YNorth Shoes and Mary Ajayi, Curator of Global Shapers, Ibadan Hub.
One of the noteworthy presentations at the event was from Niyi Ajao, who expressed his joy at having a forum like After5ive where young people could come together to share ideas on how to change how Ibadan is perceived in modern innovation and development space. For him Ibadan and Oyo state already has the resources, all she needs is young people who are willing to think outside the box. He also took the opportunity to share some of the ways by which the Oyo state government is looking to enhance the activities of Ibadan and Oyo based digital media users. He expressed his wish that stakeholder networking events like After5ive will not only continue, but will be held more frequently so that everybody who has a role to play in the development of digital media in Ibadan and Oyo state will be kept abreast of issues as they happen.
The guest speaker for the event, Mr. Taofeeq Oladipupo Odukoya, the CEO of Vanguard Pharmacy, talked at length on the Ibadan business mindset and how Vanguard Pharmacy went from its small beginnings to one of the top pharmacies in Ibadan today. He declared that the vision of the company to become a multinational pharmacy in the years to come. The core of his presentation was what he called the six key concepts that help businesses succeed: (1) That a business that will succeed must a clear cut vision (2) The entrepreneur must have a thorough knowledge of the industry he/she is in (3) The business man/woman who will become big will have to think big and ditch the small businesses mindset (4) The entrepreneur must learn to choose between immediate and delayed gratification (5) The winning entrepreneur must banish the fear factor and take bold steps towards reaching the big picture of his vision (6) Finally the entrepreneur must be flexible and not lock up his mind to any possibilities.
The convener of the event, Paul Adepoju, thanked everybody who made the date for the event. He declared that he was overwhelmed by the encouragement he received from the partners and the attendees of the event. He revealed that his dream is to make After5ive a monthly event and he hoped that he could find individuals and organizations willing to partner with IbPulse to make that dream a reality.
Apart from the presentations, After5ive also featured the After5ive mini business pitch.Five entrepreneurs presented brief pitches of their businesses to the audience in order win prizes from the partners. The audience was then required to vote for the best pitches. At the end of the voting, Ethel Okocha of Indoor Catering Services and Ololade Ojobaro of 2303 Fashion Houses placed winner and first runner up respective. Finally there were plenty of opportunities to network, to exchange ideas and to create mentorships and personal relationships between the guests.
