NPFL MATCHDAY 6: 3SC END WINLESS STREAK
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan finally ended a streak of 4 games without a win in the Nigerian Professional Football League with a 2-1 win over Rivers United of Port Harcourt at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba Ibadan on Sunday the 5th of February 2016. Two goals from Sunday Faleye and Jide Apena helped the Oluyole Warlords to a victory over the Port Harcourt side who had not lost a game in the NPFL before this weekend’s round of matches.
Faleye put 3SC ahead in the 17th minute after taking advantage of some lax Rivers United defending, but the visitors got back on level terms twelve minutes later when Lukman Mohammed equalized with his first ever goal for the club. 3SC then proceeded to miss several clear scoring chances and looked like they would not be able to breach the Rivers defense further when Faleye, who would later be forced out of the game due to injury, popped up again to lay a fine chance for Apena, who put 3SC ahead in the 68th minute, to wild jubilation from the Ibadan fans who had turned out in droves to support their team. The win, which is only their 2nd in 6 matches, lifts 3SC 6 places from 19th to 12th on the NPFL table with 7 points, while Rivers United even though they are still two points ahead of their hosts have now slipped from 5th to 9th.
In the other NPFL Matchday 6 games played this weekend, leaders Plateau United maintained their unbeaten record in the league and also remained top of the league with a 0-0 away draw to Nassarawa United, Stephen Odey’s 5th goal in 6 games was enough to earn MFM a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars in Akure, a result that saw the visitors move to second place in the league and the hosts drop to 20th place. El Kanemi Warriors defeated Enyimba FC 1-0, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah got a narrow 1-0 home win over defending Champions Rangers International.
