NPFL Matchday 9: 3SC Grab Late Draw At Katsina United
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan collected its first away point of the of the ongoing 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League season with a 1-1 stalemate in a matchday 9 fixture against Katsina United Football Club at the Karkanda Stadium, Katsina.
The match against Katsina United was 3SC’s seventh game of the season as their Matchdays 7 and 8 games had been postponed due to the fact that their opponents on both days had Continental engagements and the boys were determined to build on their matchday 6 home win against Rivers United.
Things almost did not turn out well for the Oluyole Warlords as captain Nasiru Sani put Katsina ahead in the 31st minute. Shooting Stars, however, rallied back bravely in the second half and their efforts were rewarded in the 84th minute with an equalizer from substitute Kayode Olaniran. 3SC managed to hold on for a hard-fought 1-1 draw to gain their first away point of the season and their fourth point in two matches.
The result means 3SC now have 8 points and are in 16th place, just 1 place above the drop zone, but with 2 games in hand. The Oluyole Warlords, however, have the opportunity to rise to as high as 8th place if they win their rescheduled away game against Wiki Tourists of Bauchi on Wednesday the 22nd of February 2017.
In other Matchday 9 games played in the 2016/2017 NPFL over the weekend, Surprise league leaders Plateau United stretched their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes, Sunshine Stars salvaged a 1-1 draw at Nassarawa United. Head Coach Fatai Osho saw his debut game in charge of Remo Stars end in a 1-1 draw at to home Lobi Stars, El Kanemi Warriors grabbed a 1-0 away win at Abia Warriors to climb to 2nd place in the standings while the game between Gombe United and Akwa United in Gombe ended in a 0-0 stalemate. the quartet of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Rangers International, Wiki Tourists and Rivers United had their respective games postponed because they were all on continental duties.
