To make agriculture a major driver of growth in Oyo State, Nigeria as well as become one of the top 5 agricultural producing States, the state governor and other stakeholders in the state put heads together towards the birth of Oyo State Agricultural Initiative (OYSAI).
OYSAI came to reality last Thursday at the event tagged “AgricOyo” attended by researchers, agro-allied investors, and Gov. Abiola Ajimobi. It was a gathering to contribute ideas and resources in engaging youth and empower them to create a new path for the agricultural sector in Oyo State.
Speaking at the event last Thursday, Director-General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Dr Nteranya Sanginga, said “young graduates come to IITA every Friday of the month to be engaged as casual labourers and you will be shocked to know that some of them are graduates of reputable institutions. We only pay an equivalent of $3 per day and they still besiege us.”
Kicking off the OYSAI project as directed by the state governor to build a reputable status as “food basket” of the nation, a registration platform has been created via the website, www.oysai.com.ng, and in the completion of filling the form further information will be sent to potential candidates’ email.
