IUFMP Organizes A 3-day Workshop to Mitigate Flood Risk in Ibadan
A 3-day Workshop has been organized by the Ibadan Urban Flood Management project (IUFMP) to put in place measures to prevent Oyo state capital, Ibadan, from experiencing a flood in this rainy season.
The workshop is centered on the “The Role of the Media in Mitigating Flood Risk in Ibadan”; which is presently going on at the Hotel De Haruna; with attendance of various media organizations, the Oyo state government representatives as well as stakeholders and experts on flood-related issues.
The Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP) is a World Bank supported project aimed at developing a long-term flood risk management framework and improving the infrastructure of Ibadan City, especially those destroyed by August 26, 2011 floods.
The project is a multi-sectoral initiative involving multiple dimensions of urban flood management including early warning and response, climate risk mitigation, water resources management, solid waste management, urban land use management and infrastructure development.
The agency observed that the media has a key role to play in mitigating flood risk in Ibadan. Hence, there is a need for a cordial relationship between the media and the agency.
The Workshop kicked off on Tuesday, 10th April 2018 to end on Thursday, 12th of April, 2018. At the end of the Workshop, participants will come up with suggestions, recommendations, and comments on how the media and IUFMP can work together to mitigate the flood risk in Ibadan.
