Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan continued their winless run in the ongoing 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League with a 0-2 loss to Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC of Ilorin, in an NPFL Matchday 5 game played today at the Kwara Stadium, Ilorin.
Adeshina Gata could have grabbed the opener for ABS FC, but he missed his 27th minute penalty kick. Forward Mohammed Mohammed made no mistake 10 minutes later as scored his third goal of the season for the Ilorin side. The Oluyole Warlords tried bravely to rally back but left back Chukwuebuka Anaekwe put the match beyond the 3SC team in the 71st minute and took Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC to third place on the league table with 10 points after five (5) matches. 3SC have now failed to win any of the four games they have played since the opening day win over Lobi Stars of Markudi and they have only one (1) point in that time. Today’s result also means Ibadan side have dropped another four places on the NPFL table to 19th with 4 points with Akwa United the only team below them.
In the other 2016/2017 NPFL Matchday 5 results, MFMFC of Lagos moved into 2nd place, just behind Plateau United as they defeated Kano Pillars 1-0. NPFL defending Champions Rangers International of Enugu played out a 1-1 draw with Niger Tornadoes. Plateau United who are still yet to lose a game in the league got their fourth win of the campaign, a 2-1 win over Abia Warriors. A result that assures their stay on top of the log for another week. Remo Stars got their second win on the trot with convincing 2-0 win over El Kanemi Warriors. FC Ifeanyi Uba dropped to 18th place in the league table with a 1-3 loss in Bauchi to Wikki Tourists. Rivers United played a 0-0 stalemate with Lobi Stars, while Gombe Utd defeated Sunshine Stars 2-0, Enyimba were 2-1 victors over Nasarawa United while the last match of the day saw Katsina United play a 1-1 draw with Akwa United
