The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cleared a remanded Senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central district, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka to contest in the party’s primary election ahead of the 2019 general polls.
The Ladilu of Oyo, Chief Ilaka and one of his bodyguards, Temitayo Alamiyo were allegedly accused to have caused the death of three persons at the recently held Oranyan festival in Oyo town.
They were later remanded in Agodi prison by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ibadan, the state capital on Wednesday.
But, the Director General of Oyebisi Ilaka Campaign Organization, Alhaji Bola Akinyemi who confirmed that his principal has been screened added that the Senatorial aspirant has also been cleared to contest for the Oyo central senatorial district election by the PDP.
Akinyemi while speaking with journalists during the weekend in Ibadan, also hinted that Chief Bisi Ilaka is the only aspirant for Oyo central senatorial district and has automatically become the party’s candidate.
He said, “I wish to inform the whole world that his political journey is not suffering any set back at all. He is not only an aspirant, but he is also the PDP’s candidate for Oyo. He was screened yesterday and he has been cleared. He has been issued a provisional certificate of clearance to contest the election. His certificate was screened and he has been given clearance. We urge our members and supporters to pray for our principal, Chief Luqman Oyebisi Ilaka”.
Akinyemi said Ilaka while in prison embarked on some humanitarian services such as payment of bails for some of the inmates.
He said, “There are some people in Agodi who are not supposed to be there, maybe for non-payment of small fine. There is a prisoner who has been there since 2016 without his case being mentioned. He has hired a lawyer for that person. Some of them have not been able to get their bail because there is no money. He has paid for some people.
“Last week, he bought two footballs for the inmates. That’s the kind of person he is. So, they have started their competition today. Again before he had the problem, he was the one that gave them a toilet sometimes ago, which he has even forgotten he did. Ilaka is the mind and heart of the people. He is the man of the people. Rather than bring him down, this issue has further catapulted his political ambition.
“The hierarchy of the party sent down their own legal representation in Ilaka matter. The party at the National level is aware. He is suffering because of the refusal to align with the ruling party. They felt it’s an opportunity to deal with him,” he concluded.
