PDP- Misuse of 2011 Relief Funds Behind The Recent Flood Witnessed In Ibadan
The Oyo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the misuse of loans and donations received by the Oyo State Government after the 2011 flood that destroyed some parts in Ibadan, has led to the recent flood experienced in the state last Tuesday.
PDP in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ismaila Asipa stated that although a huge amount of money was graciously donated and secured by the government after the 2011 flood, nothing can be shown for the huge amount of money secured.
He said, “I would like to recall the flooding of some years past, APC led at the inception of the APC-led administration in Oyo state, when flood also destroyed almost all standing structures in the state”.I remembered that the government also secured loans to open up blocked drainages and construct new bridges. It was as if the Ajimobi APC led government signed a pact with the Yemoja goddess, and the breaching of the pact has led to the excessive flood in the state. He encouraged residents to call upon their Creator irrespective of religions to offer their prayers so that such a disaster is never witnessed again.
He also seized the opportunity to sympathise with those who lost their properties and means of livelihood to the recent flood, reported through Oyo State especially Ibadan and its environs. On a final note, he appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the flood victims especially when most of them are workers and pensioners who have not been paid their salaries since the beginning of the year 2017.
But the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) through its publicity secretary, Mr Olawale Sadare challenged those making such insinuations to name the donors and what they donated to the affected vicitms.Mr Sadare in his reaction mailed to DAILY POST said that the PDP should be aware that huge resources of the state were used to provide relief materials, reconstruction of damaged facilities and the dredging of rivers in the state.
He stated that the responsible manner in which the disaster was handled was globally applauded. He also stated that they should be reminded that he who comes to equity, must come with clean hands.A set of people synonymous with diversion and misappropriation of public funds would always think everyone in power acts the same.
He also noted that with the unending stories of maladministration left by the PDP, no sane person can take them serious again even when they spend parts of their loots to publicize fake information.
