Nigeria’s 4x100m female relay team have re-ignited  the country’s hopes of winning a medal in athletics and their first ever medal in this year’s Olympics after securing a place in the final of the 4x100m event.

The Nigerian Team which features the quartet of Blessing Okagbare, Gloria Asumnu, Agnes  Osazuwa and Jennifer Madu ran their season’s best (SB) of 42.55 seconds to finish second behind Germany (42.18 seconds) in the semi-final.

Asumnu gave Nigeria a good start from the lane 8 before passing the baton to Blessing Okagbare who maintained the strong position then passed it to Madu who  handed the baton to an impressive Agnes Osazuwa that ensured that the team qualify automatically for the final after overtaking Trinidad and Tobago.
