President Buhari Plans To Extend The Policy Of Whistle-Blower Policy To Illegal Acquisition Of Arms

The Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu  disclosed the intention of the President. He mentioned further that the President was happy with the success of the whistle-blowing policy, and he wishes to extend the policy to illegal firearms.

“In a word, government thinks that the whistle blower mechanism is too important to be left without a strategic, national direction…No public policy can succeed or go far enough without public support and participation and when the citizens realize they are victims of corruption, they may feel encouraged to join the efforts to expose looted funds…” he said.

Mallam Garba added that the public funds being recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, through the help of the whistle blowers  depicts an act of irresponsibility to the nation by some public citizens.

Senator Dino Melaye Accuses Governor Bello of Triumphalism

Following the assassination attempt of Senator Dino Melaye, the Senator called out on Governor  Bello of Kogi State for not making an attempt to check on him.

Dino Melaye addressed the Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State’s “deafening silence” over the assassination attempt of his life,  claiming that the “governor’s silence speaks volumes.” However, the Kogi State Governor stated that he would not drag the issue with the Dino Melaye, but he asked him to wait for the police to carry out their duty.According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the Senator on Media,

“Senator Dino Melaye declared his resolution to continue to champion democratic causes targeted at good governance, masses empowerment and the Rule of Law. He promised never to relent in his fight against corruption, maladministration, impunity and nepotism. No amount of threat, blackmail, name-calling and harassment will stop him from being the voice of the voiceless. It is outrageous that four days after the attempt on his life, the Kogi State governor, the Chief Security Officer of the State, has neither called nor visited to know the state of affairs with him as a serving Senator from the state. The Governor’s deafening silence speaks volumes.”

In response to this statement, Governor Yahaya Bello responded via his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo, said:

“We do not want to join issues with Senator Dino Melaye. If he accused the Governor of complacency in the so-called assassination attempt, those who have been following the trend from the day his group promised to make Kogi ungovernable will not be surprised. The case is under investigation by the Police and making statements about it may be seen to be subjudice. We have been witnessing imaginary attacks in the state and when the Governor traveled to Kogi East, his antagonists also alleged he was attacked even when the opposite was the case. As a government, we believe police are capable of getting to the root of the allegation and do justice to it once and for all. Governor Bello is redefining leadership in Kogi State, therefore the plan of One-Day One-Trouble will not work. We are in the news for the roads we are constructing, the agriculture we are reforming, the health care we are making affordable and the walls of insecurity we are pulling down.”
