Buhari launches Economic Growth and Recovery Plan
On the 6th of April, 2017,President Muhammadu Buhari formally launched the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan for a period of three years, covering 2017 to 2020. The inauguration took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The plan is expected to help Nigeria out of its present economic situation. It is focused on some major areas which include Stabilizing the Macroeconomic Environment; Achievement of Agriculture and Food Security; Expansion of Energy Infrastructure capacities (power and petroleum); Improving Transportation Infrastructure and Driving industrialization principally through local and small business enterprises.
At the event, President Buhari said his administration has a passion to make the country a producing one as against the consuming nation. In his words,
“I want to assure all Nigerians that we are approaching the solution to our economic challenges with the same will and commitment we have demonstrated in the fight against corruption, terrorism and militancy….”
Anambra Speaker Elopes with Mace to Avoid Impeachment
Mrs Rita Maduawgu, the speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, was subject to impeachment by the members of the house yesterday.
The impeachment prompted her to flee from the premises with the mace.
However,the Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano went to the House of Assembly complex to address the member of the house not to go on with the impeachment.
Kayode Fayemi Sues the Ekiti State Assembly N500m
The Minister of Solid Mineral and the former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has pressed charges of N500m suit against the Ekiti State House of Assembly for issuing a bench warrant for his arrest.
The State Assembly earlier asked the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to apprehend Fayemi due to the misappropriation of funds recorded during his administration between 2010 to 2014.
However, Kayode Fayemi filed a lawsuit of N500m against the assembly as general damages for embarrassment and public ridicule the arrest had caused him. He stated further that the summon against him was not in accordance with the sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 constitution.
Ajimobi Inaugurates New Local Government Caretaker Chairmen
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State appointed new caretaker chairmen for 28 local governments and 27 local council development areas (LCDAs). The swearing in ceremony took place at the executive council chamber of the governor’s office on Friday in Ibadan. The state has 33 local governments and 35 LCDAs but five local governments and six LCDAs from Oyo and Oriire were exempted due to the ongoing litigation.
However, two nominees were rejected due to some issues concerning certificates and intellectual capacity to perform as Local Government Chairmen. They are Mr Mudasiru Agbaje for Irepo Local Government, Adeleke Taiwo for Asabari LCDA in Saki. In addition,Mr Akeem Aransi, the screened Caretaker Chairman of Lagelu West LCDA was replaced with Mr Abiodun Oladeji few minutes to the swearing-in-ceremony.
The Governor persuaded the new caretaker chairmen to work effectively in their several domains. He also added that the appointment was temporary, as it would only last for three months.
