Oyo Decides 2019

Although the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has not lifted ban on election campaigns, many aspirants have declared their intention to contest in the gubernatorial election and are already showing the incumbent government its way out of the office. Here are the contestants.

Below is the list of some of these individuals in Oyo state, who have declared their interest to succeed Ajimobi come 2019 election.

  • Engr. Seyi Makinde

He is a businessman, politician and a philanthropist. An engineer and a subject matter expert on fluid and gas mastering. The managing director for the makon group. Born on 25 December 1967.

  • Mr.Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu

He is a legal practitioner, an active politician, the incumbent minister of information, one-time member of the Oyo state house of assembly. Born on 23 March 1956.

  • Dr .Kola Balogun

A Dr. of philosophy and degrees in political science, an active politician and a one time commissioner in the then administration of Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala. Born on 27 July 1956

  • Chief Adeniyi Akintola(SAN)

A senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a legal Consultant and counsel to various multinational companies, government agencies, oil and gas companies, construction and manufacturing companies. An active politician.

  • Mr. Olufemi Lanlehin

He is a legal practitioner, an active politician, a one time senator for Oyo -South. Born on 8 July 1953

  • Prof. Soji Adejumo

A professor of Animal physiology and a Frontline politician. He was the chairman of the Oyo state universal basic education board, during Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala regime. One time Oyo state chairman youth development. Born on 3 December 1956.

  • Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja

A businessman and a one time governor of Oyo state in 2003, A member of the Senate 1993 in the third republic, one-time director of guarantee trust bank limited in 2000. Born on 25 September 1944.

  • Bimbo Adekanbi

The incumbent commissioner for Oyo state is also a business process expert and a business engineer.

  • Barrister Sarafadeen Ali

Ex-Chairman Odu’a investment company limited. The only elected chairman under the platform of the defunct national republic convection during the aborted third republic in the state.


  • Adebayo Adelabu

Deputy governor of central bank of Nigeria, an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

  • Alhaji Yunus Abiodun Akintunde

The former commissioner for works and transport Oyo state

  • Prof Adeolu Akande

Ex. Chief of staff Oyo state, professor of political science, a scholar, social scientist, research and public administrator.

  • Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi

A senator representing Oyo south senatorial district and also a former special adviser to the governor Oyo state. Born in 1963.

  • Abdulfatai Buhari

Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria, representing Oyo North senatorial district. Former managing director at UTC  and Abapat. Former member house of representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in 1965.

  • Monsurat Sunmonu

A serving senator, representing Oyo central, Past speaker Oyo state house of Assembly. The first female speaker in the history of Oyo state.

  • Aderemi Rauf Olaniyan

A general manager of the Oyo state maintenance Agency (OYSTROMA). Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration. Fellow Nigerian society of Engineers. Born on 25th February 1960.

  • Dr Abdul-Azeez Adeduntan

Commissioner for health Oyo state.

Prominent lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) Founder /principal at Ahmed Raji &co.

  • Mr Zackeus Adelabu

A former commissioner for finance Oyo state.

  • Honourable Temitope Olatoye
