Ajimobi Installed As Aare of Ibadanland
The Oyo State Governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, and his wife, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, have been conferred with the chieftaincy titles of Aare of Ibadanland and Yeye Aare of Ibadanland respectively on Friday the 16th of December 2016, by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso I.
The titles, according to the monarch, was given to the couple in appreciation of their immense contribution to the development of Ibadan land. The event also coincided with Governor Ajimobi’s 67th birthday anniversary. The conferment ceremony was held at the Popoyemoja private residence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso I.
The title of Aare of Ibadanland, the palace explained, is a prestigious chieftaincy title which is conferred on a successful son of Ibadanland, who has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the ancient town. Ajimobi is the fourth holder of the title. The first holder of the title was the late Chief A.B Akinyele, followed by Chief Emmanuel Alayande, and Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola-Alao who was adjudged as one of the greatest philanthropists in the country.
In his acceptance speech, Ajimobi thanked the Olubadan and his council of chiefs for honouring him and his wife.
“Many other people were also instrumental to this chieftaincy title. I dedicate this title to all of them and others who want the progress of Ibadanland. The Olubadan did not collect any money from me for this title. I love Ibadan passionately and I will continue to develop it and contribute to its progress. This title will even spur me to do more for the city of Ibadan,” he said
Among the dignitaries at the event were former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Adeyemo, Deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Aare Musunlumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Dauda Akinola, Chief Theophilus Akinyele, Ambassador Olu Sanu, Basorun Kola Daisi and Chief Lamidi Ajadi.
