Shooting Stars of Ibadan were far from impressive on Sunday evening May 22 as the team lost 0 – 2 to Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Inefficient defending by the team’s captain Seun Akinyemi cost 3sc the first goal as early as the 8th minute when Friday Ubong easily tapped the ball in to put the hosts ahead. More shoddy defending allowed Cyril Olisema slot home the ball to the far corner as Akwa United deservedly won the tie 2 – 0.The Oluyole Warriors have their goalkeeper Fabiyi Emmanuel to thank as the scoreline would have been more.
In other fixtures that day, Plateau United played a goalless draw with Kano Pillars, Sunshine Stars defeated Abia Warriors 2-1, , Warri Wolves trounced the El Kanemi Warriors 3-1 and Wikki Tourists emphatically beat Ikorodu United 3-0.
Enugu Rangers continue to top the league table with 32 points with 18 matches played followed closely by Wikki Tourists and Lobi Stars on 31 points each. Shooting Stars continues its seemingly futile struggle in the relegation zone as it is 18th on the table with 20 points from 19 games played.
