Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Oyo Deputy Gov Commends Military for Peace in Nigeria
The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Moses Adeyemo, has commended the military for its efforts in restoring peace to the North-East region of Nigeria and the entire country. Adeyemo gave the commendation in Ibadan on Sunday the 15th of January 2016 during the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
The deputy governor said the military needs to be celebrated because of their contributions to peace and stability in the nation.
“We need to continually take care of the children of the departed souls, their widows, parents and other family members they left behind. “We must not let them suffer because they have suffered untimely deaths for their loved ones.”
In his remark, Mr. Michael Olagunju, the Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Oyo State chapter, urged the Federal Government to make the welfare of the military at the war front a priority to serve as a morale booster for the soldiers. Olagunju also advised the government not to neglect the families of those gallant officers who paid the supreme price for the stability of the nation, “which everyone is now enjoying.”
Among the other dignitaries present at the celebration were Maj.-Gen. Martins Abraham, General Officer Commanding, 2 Division Nigeria Army (GOC), Ibadan, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, Air Commander Emmanuel Akinbayo, Commander of Nigerian Air force Detachment, Ibadan, among others. Apart from the speeches of the dignitaries present, there was also the offering of prayers for the departed soldiers, laying of wreaths in their honour, an inspection of a guard of honour by the deputy governor and the release of ceremonial peace balloons.
