Akin Alabi, founder of popular sports betting site, Naira Bet is thinking of launching a bid to buy the Shooting Stars Football Club popularly known as 3SC. The businessman cum politician is a staunch supporter of the club and according to him, he has been a fan since his boyhood days.
Akin Alabi has been one of the sponsors of the club this season. He presented a brand new 32 seater coaster bus to the Oluyole Warriors at the beginning of the season. However, this does not seem to be enough as the club continued a string of terrible performances which has seen them sitting at the 18th position on the league table with 17 points from 18 matches played. The club is in danger of being relegated to the Nigerian National League.
The team’s performance this season has been marred by reports of unpaid salaries and financial difficulties and the coach Kadiri Ikhana was sacked recently. Akin Alabi stated on Monday that he will be willing to buy the club from the Oyp State Government if the Governor allows it. This move will see him join the ranks of the likes of Ifeanyi Uba who own football clubs.
Shooting Stars in its hay days have won five Premier League titles, four Federation Cups, one CAF Confederation Cup and a CAF Cup
