Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan lost their second consecutive Nigerian Professional Football League game away 1-2 to Kano Pillars FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday the 22nd of January 2017. The Oluyole Warlords gave a much better performance than they did on their last visit to Kano in the 2015/2016 NPFL season where they were spanked 6-0, but they were still no match for their hosts.
3SC, who were looking to bounce back from a 0-1 midweek loss to Sunshine Stars of Akure, took a surprise lead in the 41st minute through Adigun Adewale who turned in a Samuel Olabisi cross, however, the lead only lasted six minutes as Adamu Mohammed equalized two minutes into the second half. The Ibadan side held on and looked like they would secure a vital point, but they were once more undone by a goal in the closing stages as Mohammed scored his second goal in the game to send 3SC home empty handed.
The loss leaves the Ibadan club with three points from three games and sees them drop nine places on the NPFL league from 3rd after week 1 to 12th after Week 3. The result also means the game against Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club (MFM FC) of Lagos, at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Wednesday, January 25 is a must win or else 3SC’s season is not to go the way it went in the 2015/2016 NPFL season where the club spent most of the season battling relegation.
In other NPFL Matchday 3 games, MFM FC’s Stephen Odey scored a hat trick as the Lagos side grabbed a sensational 4-0 win over Lobi Stars of Markudi. ABS FC of Ilorin climbed onto 2nd place in the league with a 1-0 win over FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi, Rivers Utd of Port Harcourt triumphed 1-0 over Niger Tornadoes of Minna who are the bottom of the league with 1 point, while Wikki Tourists of Bauchi defeated Akwa United of Uyo 1-0. NPFL defending champions, Rangers International of Enugu finally got their first win of the season and climbed to 9th place with a 1-0 win over El-Kanemi FC of Maiduguri.
