Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Area Command, have intercepted a bullet-proof Toyota Land Cruiser Prado jeep as well as 24 other assorted vehicles laden with contrabands. The items included imported foreign rice and other general goods, the Customs Area Controller for the Command, Mr. Temitope Ogunkua, has disclosed.
Ogunkua who paraded the seizures to newsmen in Ibadan revealed that the feat was recorded within the first six months of the year following the resilience of the officers and men in their determination to combat smuggling in the area.
According to the Customs boss, a total of 342 50kg bags of rice with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2,944,620, loaded in 23 of the seized vehicles had already been examined while the DPV and the quantity of rice in the two other trucks would be ascertained on examination after the briefing. “The seizures were made at different locations within the command’s area of coverage,” he said.
