SIMBA Group has embarked on capacity building training for women tricycle drivers in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The company is the representative of TVS Motors of India and is engaged in the assembly, distribution and servicing of the product in Nigeria. According to Mr. Vijay Patil of Simba Group, the company decided to embark on the training to promote safe driving and to help the female drivers learn how to keep their vehicles on-road for a longer period. “we are seeing more and more women show interest in driving three-wheelers due to the attractiveness of this form of employment, and it is our goal at Simba to create and develop the kind of ecosystem necessary for women to be empowered and feel safe and welcome in this industry,” he said.
He explained further that the training is targeted at women who are already driving the vehicles and at women who have an inclination towards joining them.
According to Mrs. Lawson Titilayo Adewola, one of the women drivers who participated in the training: “Since I started (driving tricycles) I have only been using TVS products. I am happy with the company and I am proud to be a woman driver. When men see me driving they are very impressed and my fellow women find it almost difficult to believe. Everybody prefers to board my tricycle.”
